Green Productivity (or GP) is a strategy for enhancing productivity
and environmental performance for the overall socioeconomic development.
It is the application of appropriate productivity and environmental
management tools, techniques, technologies to reduce the environmental
impact of organization’s activities, good and services.
GP is drawn from the integration of 2 very important developmental
strategies viz., productivity improvement & environment protection.
If our economy is to be steered in a sustainable direction, there is
a need for a new paradigm. This would involve integrating environmental
protection and productivity improvement.
GP is applicable to all sectors including industry, agriculture, transportation,
retail and service establishment, government and schools as well as
the community. The goal of GP is to attain higher level of productivity
for serving the needs of the society & to protect and enhance the
quality of environment-both locally & globally. GP leads to gains
in profitability through improvements in productivity & environment
performance. Sustainability is thus the vision or driving force. GP,
therefore, is NOT an end-of-pipe treatment for environmental pollution.
Although GP has been promoted in many countries by the Asian Productivity
Organization (APO) based in Tokyo Japan, the registration of the Malaysian
Green Productivity Association, Selangor & Kuala Lumpur marked a
very significant milestone in promoting this strategy because GPA is
the “First Legally” registered organization in APO on GP!
To promote GP in Malaysia, GPA will work closely with trade & industry
associations, chambers of commerce and government agencies such as NPC,
DOE, MOSTE, INTAN, Local Authorities, etc.
